I was named well…

Aspasia charms Pericles and Socrates

I was named for a French cheese and an ancient Greek philosopher, so it’s only fitting that I’m creating a blog with thoughts and experiences about food.

My middle name, Aspasia, is after an ancient Greek intellectual.  She was known to be witty and entertaining; a socialite and a philosopher.1)http://penelope.uchicago.edu/~grout/encyclopaedia_romana/greece/hetairai/aspasia.html

Pericles, leader of Athens during it’s Golden Age, was in love with her but unable to marry her since she was from a foreign state. 2)http://www.classicalathensgoldenage.com/pericles_aspasia.htm

Both charming and influential, she hung out a ton with Socrates and they were known to have important discussions and influenced each other greatly.

In fact, many philosophers and statesmen were known to seek her counsel.3)http://www.classicalathensgoldenage.com/socrates_aspasia.htm

As for my first name, Brie, I once asked my mother if she’d named me after the cheese.  She just laughed at me.  I guess I have to take that as a yes.
